Migration, Memory and Identity

Issues of belonging, bordering and border crossing are studied with respect to their historical dimension. IHIST brings together historical and anthropological investigations of border practices and perceptions, political participation, migration and mobility, identifications and memory cultures from Gallo-Roman times to the current ‘Greater Region Saar-Lor-Lux’. Situated at the crossroads of Europe and characterized by the permeability of its borders for most of its history, Luxembourg provides a particularly rich field for the study of questions of belonging and identity construction throughout time.
