Céline Schall

Research Scientist

Céline Schall has a PhD in Information and Communication Sciences (UAPV, Avignon) and a PhD in Museology, Mediation and Heritage (UQAM, Canada). Her doctoral work proposed a methodological analysis of the construction and mediation of the archaeological past: how do we create links to the past? What kind of links? For which cultural audiences? What are the elements of this mediation? How can we qualify the different forms of mediation and relationships to the past?

During her doctoral project, she also took part in a number of audience studies for several institutions (Musées des techniques et cultures comtoises, Arelate festival, Musée des Civilisations – MuCEM de Marseille, Pôle archéologique interdépartemental Rhénan, etc.) (2004-2008). Subsequently, she was working as teaching adjunct and research assistant (ATER) at Avignon University (2008-2010). Two post-doctoral research contracts in Luxembourg enabled her to further investigate notions of cultural ‘mediation’ and cultural ‘audiences’ (Les musées du Luxembourg, 2011-2014 and La question du ‘re’ dans la culture, 2014-2016).

After a year of independence in cultural engineering (2017), she was recruited by the City of Esch-sur-Alzette to design the city’s cultural strategy and develop studies and training for the Esch cultural sector. After 2022 (Esch 2022, European Capital of Culture), she worked with the City of Esch and the University of Luxembourg on a project for a teaching-research position, to develop research and training

After 2022, the year Esch 2022, European Capital of Culture, she has worked with the City of Esch and the University of Luxembourg to develop research and training on Cultural mediation and cultural audiences as well as Ecological and social transition of the cultural sector. Since 2023, she has held the position of Research Scientist at the University of Luxembourg, funded by the City of Esch. She coordinates a research and training programme on the ecological and social transition of the cultural sector and heads the research strand of CooProg (Coordinating artistic programming in the new climate regime).
