Lison Vercammen
PhD student
After a brief experience in medical faculty in Brussels at UCLouvain, Lison Vercammen shifted her focus to historical studies in the same university, where she earned a master’s degree in modern history, specializing in research, in September 2021. Her interest in medicine never entirely faded, as she dedicated her final two years at university to exploring the complex relationships between power, gender, and health through the political figure of Mary of Hungary in the Netherlands. This work culminated in a master dissertation titled “Le pouvoir malade. Santé, médecine et discours politico-medical à la cour de Marie de Hongrie (1531-1558)”. In February 2022, Lison received authorization to continue this research as part of a doctoral thesis provisionally titled “Gouverner par les maux. Santé, médecine et discours politico-médical à la cour de Marie de Hongrie (1531-1558)” The project focuses on analyzing previously unpublished archival material (royal correspondence, financial records, etc.) distributed across four European cities (Brussels, Lille, Vienna, and Simancas). Her research is supervised by Professor Monique Weis, with co-supervision by Professor Gilles Lecuppre, in the context of a joint supervision agreement with the Catholic University of Louvain.
