Mario Ranzinger

PhD Student 

Initially trained with a Bachelor of Arts in Archaeological Sciences at Otto-Friedrich-University Bamberg (DE), Mario Ranzinger went on to earn an interdisciplinary Master of Science in Geoarchaeology at Ruprecht-Karls-University Heidelberg (DE). Afterwards, he then worked in unexploded ordnance detection and as a consultant in explosive ordnance disposal, obtaining a postgraduate certification from the University of the Bundeswehr Munich (DE).
At the University of Luxembourg, he began his PhD project under the supervision of Prof. Andrea Binsfeld. The main focus of his research will be resource management during Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages in the greater Luxembourg area. His investigation will prioritize the influence of wood supply on industry and society, as well as its impact on human-environment relationships, with a particular emphasis on sites related to brick and ceramic production or construction.
For many years, Mario has also volunteered in the inter- and multidisciplinary TERRA project, which investigates the terraced landscape near Ramosch (CH) in the Lower Engadine.
