Danielle Roster

Research and Development Specialist

Danielle Roster has joined the Institute of History in September 2023 as a Research and Development Specialist in Music History.

After studying musicology and art history at the Paris Lodron University Salzburg, Danielle has focused her research on music and gender. She recovered the complete musical estate of the  composer Helen Buchholtz (1877-1953) as well as a large selection of hitherto unknown piano compositions by Lou Koster (1889-1973). She created and directed the Archives of Helen Buchholtz, Lou Koster and later the Archives of contemporary women composers in Luxembourg at CID | Fraen an Gender where she was responsible for research projects, editions and outreach projects.

Together with Sonja Kmec, she has been supervising the project MuGi.lu (Music and Gender in Luxembourg) since its launch in January 2022. She is overseeing the development of the platform https://mugi.lu/, which started with a portal dedicated to Helen Buchholtz and does research on music-related activities in Luxembourg from the 19th to the 21st century from a gender perspective. She sings at the Ensemble Vocal du Luxembourg and is member of the Institut grand-ducal – Section des arts et des lettres.
